Hillside High School (WASC accredited and twice recognized as a model school) is a continuation high school founded in 1987 to provide a flexible program that offers additional opportunities to complete the high school diploma to students who need a second chance. Every student participates in the development and implementation of a personal academic plan that includes use of variable credit and continuous progress to satisfy subject matter and credit requirements as well as intensive guidance services to meet pupils’ special needs. Success at Hillside is measured not only by the number of graduates but also by the number of students who complete requirements to return to the comprehensive high school. The curriculum is rigorous and standards based, reflecting the school’s ESLRs for its graduates: “Academic Achievers who develop an interest in becoming lifelong learners, Effective Communicators who seamlessly integrate technological tools into school, the workplace, and life, and Productive Citizens who demonstrate good citizenship including respect for others.” HHS History |

Welcome to Hillside High School! Hillside is one of fourteen schools in the Upland Unified School District and one of two high schools. Hillside’s program offers students an alternative educational setting. The campus, student body, and class size are smaller than a comprehensive high school, and yet, Hillside offers a thorough and complete academic program. Students at Hillside have the opportunity to re-capture and accelerate their credit acquisition toward a high school diploma. The mission of Hillside High School is to provide an environment where students identify, expand, and refine their natural abilities. Students are educated and equipped with skills and tools that will allow them to independently and responsibly attain their future goals. We offer a regular every day program plus Independent Study, Regional Occupation Program (ROP), and Adult Education. The entire Hillside staff firmly believes that all of our students have the ability to reach their maximum potential. Hillside is generously supported by the Rotary Club of Upland, the Kiwanis Club of Upland, and the Upland High School PTSA. The staff and I are proud of the programs and opportunities Hillside has to offer students. We are confident that, upon graduation, each student will be prepared to lead a productive and successful life. Dave Mooney |
